Since I resumed office physically, am loving the random in-person conversations with teams. A topic that is often discussed with female team members in the team is about the feeling of left out….missing out….FOMO, FOLO. Though they are working hard, and staying on top of all their deliverables, they fail to be a part of the group conversations or make an impact. Most importantly, they are not a part of informal decisioning or casual discussion process. "And we don't smoke or take frequent tea breaks, so we miss those casual office sessions that happens at cafeteria or tea stalls. And most importantly I run from office as soon as my work is done, so I can support things at home (be it children or other stuff), meals…And weekend, ah, they are for chores and more chores, when do I get time to socialize with my team"

Ever thought how to deal with this, how this is impacting your work & Why?

We all need some sort of equation beyond work, with people we are directly engaged with. I realized this long back, when I needed some inputs from an ex-colleague but could not reconnect with him, since I didn't know him at all beyond work. Based on my experience, listing few suggestions here.

  • Develop your domestic support system to get some time for yourself. You can invest this time in self grooming or networking at work\industry events.

  • Connect with more women at work to understand how this can be handled. Trust me, more or less everyone goes with such stuff, you need to be equipped better with solutions on how this can be managed.

  • Building great working relationships is one of the stepping stone in success.

  • And when you understand the secret, look around and help someone :)

Would love to hear more on how you think around this topic.
