Do you know the difference between a Recipe and Understanding.

Probably this is philosophical description. For an e.g. consider the recipe to make a loaf of a bread. The recipe says get some flour, add some water, add some yeast, mix it up, let it rise. Put it in a pan and bake at certain temp. This is a recipe.

While understanding a bread, you can understand biology, flour types, grain grinders, yeast, physics, thermodynamics and many more. There are so many levels of understanding there.

At times working towards innovative designing, people tend to execute the recipe of success, which is having a limited scope. For e.g. the recipe book for a bread, won't tell you how to make cake or a pizza. But if you have a deep understanding of cooking you can bake the bread, pizza make cake or even sandwiches. There is a different way of viewing everything. Basically when you get expert at something you achieve deeper understanding of doing things differently not just executing a set of standard recipes.

While executing recipe is unbelievably efficient & successful as well if this is what you want to do. However if this is not the only thing you want to do then you are stuck and there is a problem. So a balance is required to identify where recipe will work and where you need a deeper understanding to dive in further.

Remember - Novice cooks follow instructions and execute with knowledge and skill. Expert chefs do that, too, but they also invent new recipes based on their understanding of ingredients, flavors and methods.
